The morning of Lana’s 2nd birthday, I decided to surprise her with a room full of balloons. She loved it! Her bedhead is seriously the best! I’m still trying to come up with something special to do for her this year (maybe balloons again?!). If you have any sweet birthday traditions please comment and let me know!Since her 1st birthday was very “pink” I wanted to do something a little less girly for her 2nd. Her favorite book at the time was Little Blue Truck by Alice Schertle. Full of farm animals and useful teachings on helping our friends, this book is so great! I decided to do her party in this theme and I think it turned out really cute! We had her party at our local grocery store party room which was the perfect place (and less cleaning time for me!).
Food From the Farm!
I bought cute inexpensive gingham tablecloths on Amazon for all of the guest tables. For food, we had “Chicken Feed” which was corn salsa from Qdoba and chips, a veggie and fruit tray, “Farm Fresh Veggies/Fruit,” I made “Haystack” cookies which are one of my favorites- (simply mix melted butterscotch and peanut butter chips and chow mein noodles together, then spoon out and refrigerate!) and finally we had “Tractor Wheel” mac and cheese made with wheel-shaped pasta.
A Fun Activity!
For our birthday present to Lana, we bought her a bouncy cow that all of the kids loved bouncing on at the party. I made an animal “Hide and Seek Bin” for them to play in as well! To create the bin I used one of our many plastic totes and went to the local feed store (yay Nebraska!) to buy a big bag of corn feed. I filled up the bin and hid a bunch of plastic farm animals inside for the kids to find. This was a little messy so if you’re doing this at home, I suggest doing it outside, but the kids really loved it! Luckily the floor was really easy to sweep up in the party room!
Favors For Guests!
For party favors, I designed little labels on PicMonkey (if you haven’t used this yet you are missing out!) and printed them out at home. I bought some treat bags and filled them with animal crackers and simply folded and stapled over the top. I usually like doing some type of food/candy for a party favor so that it cuts down on the “trinkets” our kids love to collect!
Lana’s Little Blue Truck 2nd birthday party was a lot of fun to plan and host and ignoring the fact that I slightly burned the mac and cheese, it was a success! Lana still loves reading the Little Blue Truck and she even got the sequel, “Little Blue Truck Leads the Way” for her birthday! Thanks for reading and I hope this gives you some great party ideas!
