Awhile back, a good friend of ours gave the girls a book that I immediately fell in love with. Not only is it beautifully illustrated, but it contains such an important message. As a mom of 2 girls, I have a special responsibility to make sure that they are strong, empowered, accomplished and hopefully someday treated just as equally as their male counterparts. One way to do this is to show them not only through my own actions, but through the actions of others, just what us women are capable of.
Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls began as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2016 with now over 13,000 backers having raised more than $675,000 to bring this book to production. Such an amazing thing to see that so many people were passionate about bringing this gorgeous book to life. It is definitely a book for all ages, I know that even at 37 I find it truly inspiring. It is one that your girls (or boys!) will love reading and referring back to throughout the years- a timeless work of art.
A few years ago, before my own girls came along, I was searching for a Christmas present for my niece Eva, now 6. I wanted to find her something educational and inspiring, but also fun! In the process, I came across a wonderful website with such a plethora of information on how to raise confident and well educated girls. www.amightygirl.com has since been my go-to site for everything from books to toys to Halloween costumes- read more on some great girl costume ideas here! I ended up finding her a toddler-sized microscope which she loved and I will continue to visit this site for gift ideas for all of the girls in my life.
My girls are independent, thoughtful, assertive and inspire me every single day. This book and website are a couple of items in my “mommy tool-belt” that helped me along the way.
Dream big baby girls.
